Over the last few weeks I have been researching my family history. I realize I have been rather sloppy about it, taking the word of previous researchers as fact without verifying or sourcing the information. All fine and good when it is just a bit of fluff and a hobby. Until I stumble upon something really interesting...
I have (sloppily) traced my grandmother's family back to royalty. Cool. But then there is this voice in the back of my mind saying, "Are you sure? Just because this person said that this person told them that someone else said...that doesn't exactly make for concrete proof." So, I am going to refocus on that particular line to document as much of the information and family line as I can. The more solid sources, the more likely the information is accurate.
And if I cannot find the sources, then it is just a legend, a tale that may or may not be true. (Still cannot bring myself to completely let it go.)
I'll let you know.
